HI, I'M DAVID

I have over 30 years’ sales and marketing experience at senior management and board level. I’ve developed and implemented growth strategies for UK companies working in a variety of markets, maximising opportunities here and abroad. I’ve led organisations of all shapes and sizes through a variety of change management programmes. 


I’m not a business coach. I’m a sales and marketing expert who’s walked a mile in your shoes and faced all of the challenges you face day-to-day.


I love change. I love complexity. I love challenging the status quo. And I’m convinced there’s a simpler way to do pretty much anything.

 

HOW I CAN HELP?

I’ve had some big wins in my career to date (and made some mistakes along the way). 

Three things are obvious* to me:

 

‘Now’ is all-consuming... and it makes sense. As the pace of business quickens and competition sharpens, it makes perfect sense to focus your attention on what’s right in front of you. Whatever it is, you have to nail it. Success bears opportunity, which is great, provided you have the time to get to know the opportunity really well. If you don't, uncertainty creates noise and anxiety. Only when you're able to evaluate your options effectively, are you able to make reasoned judgements about your next move. But this takes time, deep knowledge and expertise. I can help.

Success is tough. It’s harder to separate the great ideas from the good ones when you’re winning. It’s even harder to discern what you should do from what you could do when operating at scale. I’ve been there. Every action has a blind spot. I can help you spot them.

 I'm a people person. Employees aren’t auxiliary implementers. They’re not robots, they’re incredibly complicated beings operating in increasingly complex environments. Challenge isn’t resistance, it’s creativity. I thrive off this. Real, transformational change occurs when leaders are able to create secure environments where divergent thinking is actively encouraged. I can help you to establish these habits in your organisation.

THE LATEST OBVIOUS PODCAST

In the latest Obvious Consult podcast, I had the great pleasure of interviewing John Peters, Managing Director of VES. John took over the family business when he was 29. After 25 years of leading the company, John has taken VEN from 40 to 220 employees, and grown the company’s turnover from £4 million to £26 million.

During our conversation, John really emphasised the value of the team at VES and why it is so important for any employer to be able to recognise their workforce as their most valuable asset and to utilise internal skillsets.
